Traveling in Covid times is a lot, but its been manageable. Here is a list in no order of some of the things that feel unique to traveling during a pandemic:
- Required Covid test 48 hours before getting on our flight to UK. This was actually really nice to think about as we boarded a crowded plane and spent 7+ hours traveling with strangers.
- The cab driver from Heathrow saying hello, telling us how the cab had been cleaned and that he had both his pricks (vaccination shots).
- Requirement of UK to preorder Covid Tests to our hotel that we must take and send in with the first 48 hours of being in the UK. (See picture below).
- Celebrating widely when we were able to get the Swiss Covid Pass with QR Code (The only European QR Coded EU Compatible Covid Pass we were able to get with a US Vaccination Card). This pass is the only thing that lets us go to Norway without 10 days of quarantine.
- No buffet breakfast at the hotel :(.
- Pre Travel Testing before each leg of our journey, each one a little different (France 24 hours before travel, Switzerland 48 Hours and then again on Arrival, Norway 48 Hours and in Airport Testing upon Arrival, UK 48 hours before travel and another within 2 days of landing).
- All four of the kids (Sage 8, Foster 8, Waverly 7, Ronan 5) are fully vaccinated which has been great for our piece of mind but here in the UK is the only place the kids will have to test at all. Everywhere else parent testing is all that is required.
- The last thing I will say is that while we feel good about it all right now, things are changing always and have changed multiple times within the last month while we were finalizing plans. We are trying to stay on top of it and also have reminded ourselves throughout this all to hold all our plans lightly as we know things can and will change and we may have to change course as well.
